The giant CATERPILLAR bench creeps into Yorkshire Sculpture Park

A 9.5m long solid oak bench designed by Mark Lee has now been installed on Dam Head Bridge at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

This is one of YSP’s longest ever sculptures and certainly proved difficult to manoeuvre across the park grounds. With the help of a Land Rover, a trailer and a crane the bench was successfully transported to Dam Head Bridge.

Claire Lilley, Director of Programme at YSP helped choose the final position in conjunction with Mark.

Mark said "It’s great to see the bench in situ and will provide a vast amount of seating for all visitors. The bench is designed to sit up to 30 school children".

DYEHOUSE has developed a strong relationship with YSP so much so that another four benches have also been installed in the Underground Gallery.

Peter Murray, Executive Director commented "the benches are extremely elegant and seem very at home at YSP. They are already enjoyed by our visitors. The idea of adding to this experience through the Underground Gallery and a larger version for outdoors will be much appreciated by everyone.”

Certainly worth a visit this summer!
